We had a terrific Tuesday! This morning we worked in our book clubs. I was so impressed with each group’s performance today. In the afternoon, we learned how to create an gif file and upload it to our wiki from Inspiration. We also enjoyed Spanish and Engage today. I look forward to a wonderful Wednesday.

Field Trip on Thursday(tomorrow) to the nature center. STUDENTS NEED TO BRING A BAG LUNCH. We will eat in our classrooms and will not be here for our regular lunch schedule. We will be outside for a portion of the morning. Please dress WARMLY (coat, hat, gloves, waterproof boots).
What a wonderful Wednesday! This morning we made a storyboard based on a novel excerpt. We are practicing writing step-by-step. In the afternoon we visited the science lab. It was exciting to combine our aquarium and terrarium to make an ecocolumn. We made observations and added isopods to our terrarium.

What an exciting Monday! Today we met our crickets and isopods and introduced them to their new terrarium life. We also started our Sign of the Beaver tech extension and will be completing this over the next few days. On Thursday, we go to the Environmental Center from 12:15-2:30. Students will want to have a bag lunch for this day. We will be eating lunch in our classroom. Today your child is bringing home an assignment called “Moodle Quiz Homework #1.” Please help him/her complete this and turn it back in to me by Wednesday, January 25th!

Our Unit 5 tests came back today. Please get the letter signed tonight and show me the signature tomorrow! Today we spent a large part of our math class learning the “Traditional Long Division” method. This is what you and I grew up with when we went through school. The kids have a packet coming home that needs to be finished tomorrow. Every problem should be completed using the traditional method. I have told the kids that we will be ignoring any other directions in this unit when we are asked to divide. They are excited about that!

This morning in writers workshop, we worked with our writing buddy on creating sensory details for our writing piece. Afterwards, we picked a few to add to our writing. This really made an impact on our writing allowing us to really use our five senses when describing things in our writing.

Our fieldtrip to the Detroit Historical Museum was both fun and educational. Our docent commented on how much information the students already knew...a nice compliment! Thank you so much to Ms. Alexander, Mr. Stebbins, Ms. Hurley, Ms. Juriga, Mr. Coyer, Mr. Ryan, Mr. Deighan and Mr. Richardson for joining us on the trip. We could not have enjoyed it without you!!

Remember, there is no school for students on Monday.

What an exciting day in room 204…our aquarium plants and animals arrived today! In the afternoon, we built our aquariums and added the plants, snails and mosquito fish. We will add some pics to our wiki to share with you next week! This afternoon we had time to read more of our novel!

It was a terrific Tuesday in room 204! This morning we started our new study of Ecosystems on the wiki in groups! It is going to be the most exciting science unit. Tomorrow we will be going into the lab to explore. In the afternoon, we learned more about the exciting life of Matt in the Sign of the Beaver and reviewed for our social studies quiz tomorrow.

Our day was fantastic! This morning we enjoyed visiting the school spelling bee. Lots of students practiced spelling the words as the participants spelled them. It was a very exciting challenge for us. BCS has some amazing spellers. Have a wonderful weekend!

Field Trip Friday: I currently have the families of Alexander, Stebbins, Hurley, Juriga, Coyer, Ryan, Deighan and  Richardson joining us on the trip. Please meet in the media center at 9:00 for an overview of the day. Join us in the classroom afterwards and begin boarding busses at 9:15.  You will want to bring a bag lunch for this trip.  We plan to return around 1:45.  Thanks for joining us.

While the kids will need to be able to demonstrate the partial-products method, I am encouraging them to use the traditional method as much as possible. Chaperones Needed: We are looking for 3 chaperones for our field trip to the Detroit Historical Museum on the 13th (next Friday). We will leave around 9 and return by 2. This morning we enjoyed finding sensory details in the story “Owl Moon” by Jane Nolen. We are learning to add sensory details to our writing and found so many good ideas from this beautifully written book. In the afternoon, we spent time reviewing for our quiz on Monday in Social Studies. WE also enjoyed reading “Sign of the Beaver”. Our class received the choice hour selection forms. These are due back by Friday for our class. We are trying to win a contest with Mrs. Frishman's class!

We are having a wonderful Wednesday in room 204! This morning we learned about appositives and forming plural nouns. In the afternoon we reviewed for a Social Studies quiz that we will have next week. Today we received a letter detailing plans for our upcoming field trip to the Detroit Historical Museum. Welcome Back and Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday break with your friends and family. I am so happy to be back at school with our amazing class. Today, everyone enjoyed sharing holiday experiences with writing buddies. We have one class of amazing writers!

Our class received the choice hour selection forms today. These are due back on Wednesday (1/4/12) for our class. We are trying to win a contest with Mrs. Frishman's class!

PRECUT BOTTLES NEEDED: We are in need of a few more precut 2 terrarium and aquarium sets. If you are able to complete this before Thursday, that would be great! We have a few bottles at school. If you can help with this, please email me! We plan to begin our THRILLING unit on Ecosystems on Monday. Kids will be getting their own terrarium and aquarium for their group, which will house real live plants and real live animals!!! Thanks to those of you who have precut the 2 liter bottles for our unit
