We had such a fabulous day today! This morning Mr. Hartley had some visitors at our school. They were administrators from the district observing our learning. They were so impressed with our kids, and they loved coming to the creative station with us! I was so proud of our class sharing their detailed technology project with our visitors. Each student in our class is always so good at sharing their expertise with other classmates. Today the students got to showcase these skills to our visitors. In the afternoon we learned about producers, consumers, photosynthesis, food chains and food webs. It was a very productive day! Our class is the BEST!


Please remember that this Friday is a half day so the teachers can complete report cards in the afternoon!

We had a Marvelous Monday in room 204! We finished reading our Maniac Magee novel and we were able to watch the movie (which is a bit different). We had a fantastic Friday in room 206! This morning we read some awesome chapters in Maniac Magee. Monday will be a bittersweet day because we finish the book and get to watch the movie for comparison. This afternoon we ventured to the science lab to make observations of our aquarium and terrarium. We added snails, isopods, and crickets to them as well. It was very exciting to see them acclimate to their new environment. We put the crickets in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before introducing them to the class. Like all other insects, crtickets are cold-blooded. As the temperature falls, the rate of chemical reactions inside the crickets' bodies slow down. The students thought they were no longer alive, but I assured them they would be lively soon! Have a great weekend!

Our Photostory for Mr. Wallington's 11th birthday!

We have had the best day ever! This morning we started creating our own Maniac Magee Photo story response. After responding to chapter 33, we drew pictures and took a photo of them. Once uploaded to our hard drive, we started making our photo story. Mr. Hartley was even there to watch us create our masterpiece. We plan to finish these next week and can’t wait to share them with you on our wiki. In the afternoon we read Maniac Magee. We are nearing the end and will be sad to finish this amazing book!

Today was a very exciting Wednesday! In the morning we read a few chapters in Maniac Magee and in the afternoon we met the plant and animal life for our aquarium! We enjoyed adding elodea, algae, duckweed and mosquito fish to our aquarium. We learned that the mosquito fish prefer eating mosquito larvae in their natural environment. They also like to eat elodea. In the afternoon we received our class composite! Your child will share this with you tonight! Have a nice evening and get ready for another great day tomorrow.

Today was a terrific Tuesday in room 204. We ventured to the science lab this morning for our first Ecosystem challenge. Today we worked with our group to build a terrarium. Each group planted mustard, rye grass and alfalfa seeds. We anticipate germination to begin in a few days….so exciting. The bottles you cut over break have gone to good use!!! We had so much fun today at the spelling bee. We were in awe of the amazing 5-8 spellers! We spelled right along with them on our clipboards. We had a wonderful day in room 204! This morning we read a few really good chapters from Manaic Magee. In the afternoon we learned so many interesting things about the lives of the Hopewell Indians. We also created a map representing Michigan’s Native American Territories. The tribes living in Michigan were the Ojibiwa, Ottawa, Potawatomi and Huron. We also learned something interesting about the Mound Builders of Michigan! Ask your child to share the details with you tonight!


This week we will be starting our next science unit on Ecosystems! You received information about this before break. We are requesting that each family complete three bottles to help us with our ecosystems unit. If you are able to do more, that would be greatly appreciated! We received so many bottles today! · Use a lunch box or reusable sack.
· Pack a cloth napkin and reusable utensils.
· Put food in reusable food and drink containers.
· If you must use a disposable plastic bag, wash it out and keep reusing it.
· Purchase your snacks in bulk size and repack into individual reusable containers.
· Pack fresh fruit since it doesn't require any additional packaging.

Disposable lunches can create between 4–8 ounces of garbage every day.
That can add up to as much as 100 pounds per year!
If you buy lunch, please buy only what you believe you can eat and try not to have any waste!!
