Please remember, MEAP testing on the 17th. Please make sure your child brings in good books or magazines. The state law mandates that if a student finishes the test early during any testing block, the only thing he/she may do is read. They may not draw or read on an electronic device. In fact, they can’t bring any electronic devices into the room (this is not a rule I usually have so it may be a challenge at first). Thrilling Thursday!

What a thrilling Thursday! Next week we start the MEAP test. The kids will be testing on the 9th, 10th, 11th, 16th, and 17th. I took the kids to the library today and will be encouraging them to check things out, but I am hoping you will touch base with them as well. Thank you!!!!

While it is a sad day in our nation’s history, the students showed how fantastic our community is! Today we had time in our afternoon to write letters to soldiers who are serving our country overseas. The kids took this very seriously and really showed their best work! We will work on final copies tomorrow!!! In addition to writing today, we had our first session of Reader’s Workshop. The kids are doing the best job with it and enjoying the books they have chosen. Finally the kids had Spanish today.

Today was picture day! Everyone took pictures and you can order them online if you did not send in a form. An email was sent to all parents last night explaining how to do this

Our classroom temperature varies on a daily basis, but it is often cold! You may want to have your child keep a sweatshirt or sweater in his/her locker.

Our First Day!

What an amazing first day we had! This is one awesome class! Our first day was very smooth and all of most kids seemed very comfortable, easygoing, and happy to be here. It is normal for kids to feel new and a little uncertain. This first week we will be getting comfortable with our classroom, our schedule, and our classmates. After a week or two, all the kids really do feel like seasoned pros! Today the buddies at the tables were full of energy and conversation, so the kids are off to a great start becoming learning buddies.

We had a busy day today and did not follow our normal schedule. Tomorrow will be a normal day! We began the morning with a wordsearch of all the kids’ names in our class and Mrs. Frishman’s class. Then, the kids heard about some of our classroom procedures and values. Then we went to a town hall meeting with Mrs. Chinn and Mr. Bishop. We went to Spanish and then had lunch and recess. After lunch, we did a get-to-know- you- activity with our classmates, got some important handouts, went to bus families, and it was already time for choice hour!!

Thank you for sharing your children with me. It is such a pleasure to work with them!

DROP INTO ROOM 204!

Thursday, August 30th, from 11:00-11:30, I will be in our classroom (room 204) to greet students and parents at Drop-In. Students should bring any school supplies that they have and we can tuck them safely into their cubbies and lockers. Kids will have a chance to practice opening their new lockers and also can see where their seat is in our room. It is a calm way to start the new school year! That being said, if your family has plans to be out of town for a nice, long holiday weekend, don't worry about missing Drop-In.

Enjoy the remainder of your summer!  I can't wait for the school year to begin!
