Today in class we talked about the power of persuasion. We also looked at the important parts of a persuasive essay. The purpose of writing a persuasive essay is to influence or change a reader’s thoughts on a particular topic. We discussed lots of ideas in class and attached a sample to the packet. Tonight your child is bringing home his or her prewrite to share with you. The goal for homework is to make sure the topic is one that can be supported with facts and examples. Also, make sure there are 3 details/facts supported with examples in the prewrite to support the topic.
Here are some topic ideas we discussed in class:
I think children should spend less time playing with electronic games and more time playing outside
I think we need longer than 40 minutes to eat and have recess at school.
I think everyone who wants to have a pet should have to get one from a shelter instead of from a breeder.
I think kids should have one hour (or less) of homework to do each day

Also, we picked our biography book today. You will be getting a letter today on an organge piece of paper explaining the due date of the reading assignment.

Thank you! We have plenty of bottles and food for the mealworms. Thank you for bringing them in for our science project.

Choice Hour Selection sheets are coming home today! Our class goal is to have these back on Thursday! We are working hard to win a choice hour contest with Mrs. Frishman’s class. Ask your child to share this with you tonight. You can go online to view the course offerings at www.bcsonline.info.

Thank you! We have plenty of bottles. Thank you for bringing them in for our science project.
