This morning we learned all about our new theme: Heroes! We read “Happy Birthday, Dr. King!" and had a great discussion of  the story. This afternoon, we met our new caterpillars. We have six, and they are becoming very active inside the vial. Our mealworms are happy to have the company.


We are reading to Waikiki! Ask your child to share the details of this awesome opportunity with you tonight. The letter will explain all of the important information. Students are bringing home a biography detail sheet today for use after reading. These will be turned in on January 28th. Happy reading folks!

*Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle to class so he/she does not have to leave class when thirsty!

We GYM on Tuesday and Thursday! Bring all necessary items for these days!


Here's what we have for you today:



Detroit Science Center Field Trip permission slip and check are due on January 18th. If you lost your slip, go to our forms section on the wiki to print another.

Book orders are due January 21st.

Social Studies:

Collecting Social Science Artifacts due Tuesday, January 18th (note change). The assignment is also posted on our wiki under “Forms. ”



Writing:

Special Holiday Paragraph Practice due January 21 (Friday).  Students will post the final draft on their wiki page.



Reading:

3rd Grade Reading: 20 minutes each day

4th Grade Reading: 30 minutes each day

Reading to Waikiki started January 10th. Tickets will be collected every Monday. Our reading to Waikiki Party will be help in the gym from 10:00-11:00 on Friday, February 4.

Language Arts:

Persuasive Writing Due February 4th

Read Biography by Jan 28 and return the orange letter signed by a parent when you finish reading your book. ALSO, RETURN THE WHITE DETAIL INFORMATION sheet on Jan 28th. At the top of the letter, write your name and the name of the biography you read.

Review should be turned in tomorrow (Friday) before the test.

Decimal handout due tomorrow. We did most of this together in class today with the exception of 6-9 problems.

3rd Grade End of year fact expectations:

Students should have quick mental recall of the following number of facts by the end of the year: 30 addition/30 subtraction facts in 2 mins and 50 division/50 multiplication facts in 3 mins



4th Grade Math:

Today’s homework is due on Friday. JP 160, 163 (#5), 165 SL 6.8, 6.9 Our angles projects are due on Friday, January 28th!

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS:



We would love to share in your child’s birthday celebration. If you would like your child to celebrate their birthday at school, please note the following ideas for celebrations:

Please prepare an individual snack for each child.

Please PRECUT large items providing 27 napkins/plates and other necessary utensils.

There are 27 of us!

We will celebrate all birthdays during the designated snack time!

No peanuts please!

If you would prefer that your child not participate in birthday celebrations, please let me know as soon as possible.
